Although everyone was excited to get back on the stage, many admitted that the performance wasn’t as good as they had hoped for it to be. However, the performance of “The Brothers Grimm” proved to be a meer shakeout compared to their next production of “Disney’s The Little Mermaid.”

Disney’s The Little Mermaid, tells the story of a young mermaid naimed Ariel who falls in love with a human. Desperate to meet her prince and find out more about humans, Ariel strikes a bargain with an evil sea wich to trade her voice for a chance to meet her prince.

Senior Laney Cross did a perfect job of embodying the curious mermaid Ariel, with Sophmore Mary Wells as the seagull Skuttle, her not-so-perfect guide to the human world. Senior Mariel Chan-ba played the swashbuckling Prince Eric in the show-stopping spectacular.

Rightfully so, many fans and performers alike said that this was one of their favorite productions that NCHS has put on. Sophomore Adam Hannon, who played King Trition said, “This is a musical that will forever and always live in my heart and one that I will never ever forget.”

Senior Lainey Cross, who starred as Ariel, said “My favorite part was the feeling that I got after each show when all the little kids came and wanted to get pictures and autographs from me! It reminded me of how happy we can make others by using the talents we possess.”

Many actors and tech crew said that it wasn’t the show that was their favorite, rather the funny memories that came out of it. Senior Beau Ford, who was cast as Sebastian, said, “My favorite memory from this play would probably be the increasing amount of water I’d use for a spit take on my friend Carson”

However, Sophomore Adam Hannon said that his favorite memory was just being able to meet so many new people, “My absolute favorite memory from this play is the people I met along the way. I got close to the people I didn’t think I’d ever meet. I’m glad I met them and got to perform with them.”

After the success of The Little Mermaid, the whole theatre department is looking forward to the spring performance of “The Play That Went Wrong”. We are proud of our theatre performers, and cannot wait to see what they bring to the stage in the spring!

After 2020 was somewhat of an off-year for the New Castle Theatre Department, they came back with the show-stopping production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid. The theatre department went almost a year without performing due to the pandemic. “The Brother’s Grimm” during the spring was their first performance of the 2020-2021 school year.
