Hilarious, entertaining, funny, comical, amusing, quick-witted, and clever.
Those are all adjectives that could be used to describe NCHS’s recent production of the Play That Goes Wrong.
Play posters advertising NCHS’s production of The Play That Goes Wrong” claim that “it tickles the funny bone.” In this play written by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Slayer, and Henry Shields and directed by Amber Schuler and Christina Howard, it truly did.
The Cornly University Drama Society attempts to follow the story of a mysterious murder at Havisham Manor, but it doesn’t go quite as planned. As they investigate the murder, they run into a few hitches, including, misplaced props, a faulty door, a collapsing set, and even a falling chandelier!
Right from the start, the play doesn’t go as planned. The actors deal with all kinds of mishaps including a “corpse” who isn’t really dead, a few strong drinks, actors being knocked unconscious, and a falling set piece, By the end of act 2, when the cast finally figures out who committed the murdur the entire set falls apart!
The play was loaded with jokes, quick-witted sarcasm, and comical irony.
In fact, senior Brooklyn Coomer who played Perkins said, “The most challenging part of this play was staying in character! Trying not to laugh on stage was super difficult.”
Senior Noah Phelps, who played Thomas Colleymore said, “My favorite part of doing this play was a lot of the funny stunts along the way. The biggest challenge was getting over my fear of heights.”
Many cast members have said that even though this performance presented a challenge, they still had a lot of fun,
Sophomore Colten Lawson, who played Cecil Haversham says,”. My favorite part about doing this play was for sure just being around the cast all the time”
Coomer also added,”My favorite memory was the cast party and we had the best time together.”
Coomer, who has been doing theater for 6 years, said that this is for sure her favorite play.
After NCHS’s fall production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid, set the bar high, this play set the bar even higher. One thing is for sure, we can’t wait to see what the NCHS Theatre Department does next!
