The National Renaissance conference is a worldwide conference for educators and students.   The Renaissance conference helps educators and students get new ideas for their schools. These ideas can vary from changing your school’s culture to the way your teachers teach class. Renaissance focuses on helping students and making changes for the betterment of the school’s culture and potential. This conference is for any age so anyone can attend!

The event lasts three days (Monday – Wednesday).  On the first day, they take you on a small fun trip. For example, they took everybody to Disney’s Magic Kingdom at this year’s conference. They have vacation houses with public pools, food service, and fun activities, but that’s not all. They show you how teachers view their school and students, and how they want to make a change; it helps students understand the teacher’s point of view. They also help teachers understand the student’s point of view on school.

Renaissance has thousands of people attending every event; people from different states and cities. With these people, you get to learn how to change your school’s environment and get motivated to try new things for your school. They section out the conferences with “Dynamic Breakouts” These dynamic breakouts are separate sections that teach specific topics on the school’s culture, environment, investment, etc. Half of the breakouts are for educators and the others for students.

Renaissance leader Karen Foster said, “They want to make the school a happy place and a better place where the students feel welcome.” She also explains how there are thousands of educators there who all want to better our schools in all different ways.

Senior Ella Garvin said, “Anyone that is interested in changing the culture and making the culture a better place should go.” Garvin also said, “The conference was very fun too, which made me want to recreate that enjoyment into something my peers at school can enjoy.” It shows that this conference truly can support educators and students in changing their schools for the better.

We also had a few other students give us some more feedback. Junior Taylor Round said,“My view after this conference makes me happy and grateful that I get to come to school every day. We hope to make school a happy place for everyone to be welcomed every morning.”

Another student, Senior Ryan Grieser said,” After attending the conference, I learned that school can be an amazing and fun place to be, if you want it to be. I look at school in a new way every day, as I am looking around and seeing what we improve on.”

If you are interested in changing the school’s culture for the better and learning more about your peers and teachers, I recommend you go to the next Renaissance National Conference. There is no set location yet, but it will be during July of 2023. If you want to try to learn ways that could change your school for the better, you should think about attending this conference.
