
Students all around the world struggle with mental health issues. Some of these issues are caused at birth. Others are caused by external factors, such as school or work. Mental health is a serious issue that often gets overlooked or completely disregarded.
A large factor of student’s mental health issues come from stress. Stress is something that everybody deals with, whether they choose to admit it or not. The main issue with stress is that some students have no idea how to manage their stress. Coping with stress can be a challenging task, but with the right tools many students will find that it is not as difficult as it seems.
Some stress management strategies are extremely easy, such as taking deep breaths, exercising, seeking support. One of the best ways to manage stress is to talk to somebody who will listen. People often disregard this as an option and think it will not help them. This could not be further from the truth, talking with somebody is a great way to open up about problems and vent to somebody who cares.
People can be stressed by a variety of things, Junior Michael Gulley is stressed by the following. “I get stressed by being expected to do things, talking to strangers, and messing up on an easy task.” These reasons are a perfect example of how stress can be connected to almost anything.
Everyone had different methods of coping with stress, Sophomore Macie Morehouse utilizes the following techniques. “Typically when I feel stressed I like to read, play with my dog, and find a way to relax.”
When asked about the best way to deal with stress Dr. Trina Wilkey says, “Come speak to me, speak to a counselor, talk to us and share with us, let someone help.” Dr. Wilkey works diligently with the school and counseling department to make sure students feel welcome and adjusted to the school environment.
Students are extremely prone to stress, according to a recent survey 100% of students at NCHS are stressed. Many students at NCHS partake in extracurricular activities whether that be clubs or sports. A handful of students are also enrolled in honors or AP which can be a lot even for the smartest of students. If you are stressed please find a way to get assistance with it, nobody deserves to struggle alone and getting help from a professional is the best way to find this help.
