What is a hero?
Of course, people could be referring to the comic book heroes: Superman, Wonder Woman, and the like. Heroes, however, walk among us. At New Castle High School, we have unsung heroes behind the scenes who ensure that the school runs as smoothly as possible. These heroes not only ensure the continued operation of school, but they also inspire the students.
Secretaries are crucial to not just New Castle High School, but any school. They answer inquires from students within and parents outside, keep track of student data, let students in when they are late, and transferring calls to the correct respondent.
“My favorite thing about New Castle High School is the wonderful administrators, staff, and students,” Jennifer Wolski said. “They are very kind, polite, and respectful.”
Wolski is the clerk at New Castle High School. She is in her first year in this role. Wolski is the person who people first see when they enter the main office, with her radiant and positive energy greeting every person who crosses the threshold. In her words, she wears many “different hats”.
Her responsibility as the gatekeeper of the school makes student safety a top priority. She says that the student interaction that she receives on a daily basis makes her job more enjoyable. Seeing students being responsible and growing in their education is a rewarding part of my job,” Wolski said.
Secretaries also maintain close contact with teachers at the school. “I love the passion our teachers have for education,” Tammy Champion said. “I see how much they care.”
Champion is the High School Registrar, working with the counseling department. She is the person to contact with regards to grades, transcripts, and demographics. When a student enters the counseling office, Champion is there ready to be of the upmost help to the student.
Whenever a student is confused and needs answers, the secretaries are there with the information. Whether it be on the phone or in-person, the secretaries of NCHS are committed to friendly interactions.
“I love the interaction with people. I am a people person,” Wolski said.
One important part of the job that our secretaries love doing is helping students with their inquires. “One of the favorite parts of my job is helping the students. It is very rewarding for me to have had just a little part in their success,” Champion said.
The secretaries work diligently everyday and are crucial to the school. They are the people who hold the school together by their hard work and love for their job. They have a charm that can warm up a room just by their presence. They sometimes have to deal with less than pleased parents and students, but through it all, they always keep a smile on their face and ready to help the next person. Our Trojan secretaries are respectful and calm, knowing their priorities. Our secretaries alleviate stress off of the shoulders of the administrators and teachers. They are stable and steady, taking up any and all tasks thrown in front of them.
For their dedication to their job and their many skills, the secretaries of New Castle High School are heroes to the people that they come in contact with everyday.
