New Castle just had a new tennis record! The student who made this record is Senior  Trenton Alfrey. Alfrey and the team are playing very competitively to keep their position stable throughout the season. The New Castle team has been able to keep a close relationship with one another and pull through these past games with teamwork.

Over the past two seasons, Seniors Trent Alfrey and Sam Underhill have been the driving forces behind the team’s overall success.  Underhill has gone 14-7 and Alfrey has gone 19-2 this season. Adding in the 2021 season, Alfrey’s record is a smashing 41-4. This was enough to snag him the most career wins in new castle boys Tennis History with 71 total wins in his entire career. Alfrey isn’t the only player on the record board, with Senior Underhill having climbed into the top 15 last week.

Coach Curt Huntley said, “To have two players in the same graduating class in the top 15 in wins is pretty remarkable. The hard work they have put in during the offseason has really paid off for them.”

“[I like] There’s great sportsmanship with the team and coaches; we make sure each of us has each other’s back no matter the situation,” Alfrey said.

Tennis is recommended by lots of players, especially if you’re just starting sports. “Tennis helps me think about things in more positive ways. Working with the New Castle tennis team has put a positive manner on me and my teammates.”, Alfrey said. Alfrey started tennis in middle school and has continued to play all four years of high school.

This year’s New Castle team shows their dedication and hard work to be the greatest. With their 10 – 3 record they have a chance for high tournament placement. The team has had a sectional championship in its sights all season. With their skill and strong relationship, nothing can get in their way. We can’t wait to see them continue to show this dedication for the rest of their season and into tournament time.

“As we move into the state tournament next week, our goal remains the same as it was at the beginning of the season, to win Sectional and then the first Regional in boys tennis history,” Huntley says, “I believe Sam and Trent are going to lead us there.”
