Gavyn Whitehead is a student, football player, and a wrestler. Whitehead goes from football in the summer to wrestling in the winter. Whitehead finished fifth at state this year in the one hundred and thirty eight pound weight class and played corner for the football team. Whitehead placed sixth in state last year which means he improved since last year. Whitehead stays pretty active because he is always doing something sports wise. Whitehead is plays corner for New Castle’s varsity football team. He has started varsity for two years now and has done pretty well. Playing corner is an important roll on defense. You have to be physically and mentally strong. When playing corner your trying to not let the wide receiver catch the ball on you or let the running back get past you when the offense runs the ball.

Whitehead had eighteen solo tackles and thirty total tackles. Whitehead averages three tackles per game. He had 4 passes deflected this season. The football team went one and nine on the season and had a tragic loss to New Palestine in the first round of sectionals sixty two to zero to end the season. In Whitehead’s career he has had eight tackles and fifty four solo tackles. Whitehead had two interceptions and eleven passes defended his junior year according to maxpreps. Whitehead had a good season until it came to an end.

Whitehead is a three and a half star wrestler according to Trackwrestling. Whitehead has pinned 20 of the kids he has wrestled according to Trackwrestling. Whitehead won sectionals and regionals this year. He placed second at semi-state which means he qualified for state in which he placed fifth in. Whitehead went thirty seven and two on the season which is a great record only losing two matches the whole season. Whitehead wrestles at meets all the way in Orlando and places far away to enhance his wrestling capabilities. Whitehead is very committed to wrestling and has been doing it since he was young.
