Poem Winner:
Shedding: by Jamie Kernel
The breeze caresses my broken skin,
as my body melts into the ground.
Crickets serenade me with their song,
and birds hum their evening sound.
The earth around me falls so still
as I shed my broken skin.
I am moving forward now,
from the person I have been.
The moon hangs above me,
surrounded by many stars.
It’s as if I hear him speaking:
“The world is finally ours.”
When I wake to crisp rays of the sun
and taste sweet dew on my face,
I feel completely renewed
and know that I have found my place.
With my broken skin behind me,
all I have is opportunity.
Today I will be better,
and tomorrow I can be free.
Haiku Winner:
Soggy Waffles: by Anne Hardwick
April showers fall
They make my waffles soggy.
Spring ruined breakfast.
Demeter: By Anastasia Taylor
Once again I am forced to mend
What people foolishly break and bend
The flowers, the trees, the animals needs
All come first opposed to man
I will labor and toil
Enrich the soil
And attempt to replace
That lost in the human embrace
Yet the years grow harder
And their cities ever louder
So woah to me, the goddess of spring
And to all those who hurt the gifts I bring

Spring Embers: by Elizabeth Farlow
Like embers of a fire burning bright and dying fast,
Springtime just never seems to last.
Though full of rain at first,
Flowers soon do grow
In fields and forests and yards
That once was filled with snow.
I know it seems so long,
But three months burn right by.
The flowers that grew so tall
Are scorched by the summer sun.
With cool refreshing gusts of wind
And the squawks from lively birds in bright green trees,
Springtime always awards great sights
To those who are willing to see.
With a heavy heart and a reluctant goodbye,
I watch summer enter as my friend spring flies by.
Spring Waters: by Talia Bridges
I sit by the spring waters that are quickly rushing by
the stream is moving so quickly
just like the birds in the sky
as the daffodils and tulips start to bloom
I notice the flowers sitting by the stream are looking kind of gloom
they lean over the water
almost falling on the ground
I try to pick them back up
so I don’t have to see them frown
I leave them with a smile on my face
knowing they are happy in their place.
I lay by the stream again
to take a look at the sky
trying to see the clouds shapeshift with my naked eye
as the sky takes on a bluish hue
and the clouds start to fade
I stare up at the moon
thinking about the future even if i have no clue
i start to drift off happily knowing that summer will be coming soon.
Spring Day: by Chloe Davis
Mourning doves cooing
Fishers fishing, parks filling
Sun shining brightly
