Summer of 2019 brought VSCO, summer 2020 brought COVID, and buckle down, because summer of 2021 is going to be known as “Hot Girl Summer”. So what makes this “hot girl summer”, and what are the hottest trends that this summer is going to bring?
Smoothie bowls: the perfect summer treat. They are healthier than ice cream, can be eaten for breakfast, and taste like a desert. Better yet, they share a lot of the same health benefits as an actual smoothie. They are perfect for helping you cool down after a hot day in the sun.
Smoothie bowls can be eaten from a cup or a bowl with a spoon instead of being drunk. They are nice and thick, just like a milkshake. Unlike a traditional smoothie, you can add as many toppings to them as you’d like. Many of the flavors of smoothie bowls resemble that of soft-serve ice cream. While being filled with antioxidants from fruit, they can deliver multiple health benefits such as extra fiber and protein.
So how do you make a smoothie bowl? Well, they can be made easily right at home with just a few on-hand ingredients.
The simplest smoothie bowl can be made with your choice of fruit, ice, yogurt, and your choice of juice and toppings. Every smoothie bowl needs greek yogurt and ice, but the rest is up to you. Frozen fruit also works as a substitute for ice. Smoothie bowls are best served in a wooden bowl, and etean with a wooden spoon.
- ½ Cup Frozen Fruit of choice
- 1 tbs of milk
- 1 tbs of greek yogurt
- Crushed ice if more thickness is needed.
Top with your choice of:
- Strawberries
- Blueberries
- Bananas
- Granola
- Coconut seeds
- Chocolate chips
- Dried fruit
- Chia seeds
Blend until the thickness of your choice, or until fully blended, then smooth it out in your wooden bowl. Add whatever toppings you would like, and enjoy.
