It was the question looming above the heads of everyone at New Castle High School this year: “Will there be Prom this year?”
The answer to that question has been finally revealed: yes.
This year’s prom, sponsored by the Junior class, will take place on May 15th, at the Arts Park in New Castle. This outdoor-indoor venue in the heart of New Castle has hosted previous NCHS dances before, with the last Homecoming dance in 2017 being held there.
Prom was something of an uncertainty this year, with the worldwide pandemic putting doubt into whether the event could even be held at all. NCHS and its administrators worked vigorously with the county health department in order to get the go-ahead to hold an event with a large capacity like prom. The announcement that Prom 2021 was going ahead was given by the Junior class president Cole Werking on the March 19th Trojan Report.
In his announcement confirming Prom, Werking announced that only juniors and seniors from NCHS would be allowed to attend. Werking also informed students that masks would be required at prom. Despite disappointment from some, Werking assured everyone to be positive and to be thankful that we had the opportunity to even have prom in the first place.
These protocols ended up changing in April when out-of-school guests and underclassmen were announced as being permitted to attend prom. For those who wish to bring and out-of-school guest, there is a link in student’s email with the form that is needed to be filled out. Out-of-school guest forms are due on April 30. Those who are taking someone from NCHS do not need to fill out the guest form.
Tickets for this year’s prom will go on sale on May 5. Ticket sales will continue until May 13. Tickets will be $25 per person. Virtual students are being asked to buy tickets on May 11 and 12 from 4:00PM to 5:00PM outside of door 2 of the high school.
As NCHS students gear up for Prom 2021, they are being reminded that per the handbook, if they do not attend school the Friday before, then they cannot be able to attend prom. Students are also being reminded to bring their photo ID to the dance along with their ticket.
NCHS is buzzing with anticipation for Prom. For the first time in more than a year, NCHS students will be able to dance the night away, forget about all of their COVID worries, and see who will be announced at prom royalty.
